a branded space

Developing our new studio has offered a great opportunity to focus on elements that make helium smile, while also enhancing the overall experience of our space. Interiors can be one of the most tangible expressions of a brand experience, housing various textures, colors, shapes, music, art and design all in one space. This multisensory extension of a brand creates an energy that can communicate your story on a multitude of levels.

With the build-out of our new studio on Fort Lauderdale Beach we have been able to incorporate a few key themes + elements near and dear to us that revolve around the environment and eco-friendly technology.

We’ve been slightly obsessed with eco-intelligent thermostat producer, Nest, for a few years. A clear passion for their own brand and user experience comes out in flawless product design, while its’ energy efficiency and super smart technology has made Nest a must-have in our studio. Plus it looks pretty sweet.

The studio can be managed from an iPhone, which makes our inner-nerd wide-eyed with excitement. The alarm, thermostat, smoke detector, music and all our management software can be controlled using non other than…[drumroll]…an iPhone. Not only is it convenient, but we have access to everything essential at the studio at all times.

Chris got hands-on salvaging pieces of copper to create a custom light fixture in the bathroom. LED Edison bulbs set an oh-so tranquil mood while kicking back on the toilet. Probably the most entertaining addition to the office is the no-touch flush toilet. Wave your hand over the top right corner and it magically flushes. Now that’s something to smile about as you hang out in the loo.

No helium environment would be complete without a small jungle. We upped the anti and installed a green wall in addition to the usual potted plants. Salvaged barn troughs are being converted into planters outside as well. Google says plants not only improve air quality but can actually decrease the indoor air temperature. Added bonus. Thanks Google.

Other cool details are a custom bookcase of reclaimed cedar and galvanized steel pipes, a cedar plank wall behind Chris’ desk, polished concrete floors, and an exposed cinder block wall. This balance of wood, plants, metal, concrete and refined elements creates a balance that is true to our overall studio intention. Refined meets rustic. Organic meets the man-made. Finding the natural balance and harmony of things; whether through design, brand development, or personal expression.

The studio is truly a reflection of our brand. We’re thrilled we could incorporate these eco-tech elements that enhance the helium experience. We’d love for you to stop by sometime soon!

farewell to fatvillage retrospective branding exhibit recap

Last week, a few days before the monthly FATVillage ARTWALK, we announced that we have taken the amazing opportunity to purchase a building and will be moving our studio to the new space by Ft. Lauderdale Beach at the end of July. We’re looking forward to this new chapter but will of course miss being part of the vibrant FATVillage neighborhood and all those who make this community great.

Over the past three years we have always featured other artists in our studio for ARTWALK, but wanted to share OUR work as well as a bit about us during our final ARTWALK. The exhibit walked people through our branding process by first introducing who helium is, our services and the overall experience.

Our inspiration board was flushed out so people could see the different types of images we take inspiration from.

Sketch books were hung on the wall so people could flip through and see how our creative takes shape.IMG_3291_web IMG_3355_web

A gallery wall of 40 completed pieces from our portfolio featured logos, business cards, print ads, websites, designs for apparel and more. It was fun walking people through the exhibit, watching as they flipped through our sketch books as well as rewarding to see their reaction to our completed projects.

The final portion of the exhibit was a live chalk wall where people could leave a message that we can take with us on the next leg of our journey. Thanks for so many great memories FATVillage! 😉

a look into our branding process

3021HEL_CaseStudy_1a

We are excited when a new branding project crosses our path. Our passion here at helium creative is creating an engaging, cohesive and immersive experience for businesses and their clients. The relationships that emerge around successful brands create a tribe of people marching to the same beat; these connections are a component of what gives life substance.

There are countless elements that make up a brand. Identity, language, website design, color and voice are several focus points we work with to support the overall brand experience.

We meet with the client at our studio for a discovery session. The goal is to get as much information as we can, and shed a new perspective on their brand. Through storytelling, rapid fire Q+A, much needed coffee and not-so-needed pastries, we begin to gain an understanding of what the client wants to convey. These few initial hours set the foundation for our research and future positioning of the company.

Our team then works together to build a Character Board. We sift through a ghastly amount of magazines, Pinterest, design blogs, tactile products and materials to begin shaping an overall feel for the brand character. Who does the brand look like? What do they feel like? Design inspiration, celebrity photos, random findings and keywords begin to collage our wall and define a style, feel and face.

After defining the brand, finding a few celebrity faces to give life, and narrowing down design inspiration, we hit the basics. This includes sketching out concepts for logo marks that could represent the brand along with weeks of fine-tuning the voice and OCDing on typography and pixel pushing, resulting in some awesome initial designs.

After the final logo mark is selected, we pull color palettes from our Character Board. Hues that meet our set objectives, brand positioning and character.

Once the process of laying the brand foundation is complete, we implement the newly developed look and feel into all materials.  We create a Brand Book that defines and gathers typography usage, logo usage, tone, style, brand voice + language, photography guidelines, and final positioning statement. This book is utilized as a guideline to create all additional supporting brand materials. Website design, stationery packaging, signage, collateral, print advertisement concepts and brochures are a few materials that will continue to communicate the brand.

Upon the completion of a brand development project, the Brand Book serves as a reference to ensure accurate implementation and representation of the brand we have created with the client, who at this point is our latest bff. We have given life to their business; essentially creating a character that enables them to connect with consumers that will benefit from their service or product.

We would love to help you create an authentic brand that develops meaningful relationships. Drop us a line at info@heliumcreative.com to discuss your project.
